About the orchestra

Welcome to our website. Here you'll find information about our forthcoming concerts, how to get in touch, where we rehearse and how you can become a member.

Since the orchestra was formed in 1982, we have gone from strength to strength. We pride ourselves as being a friendly, fully inclusive orchestra welcoming members from all walks of life, of all ages. Several of our members have been with the Orchestra for more than 30 years! Younger players often come and go, joining from school, leaving when they enter higher education, but rejoining us as guests or full time players when they return to the area.

We play a range of music centred around three major concerts a year and an open rehearsal. The music we play covers everything from Baroque, classical, and romantic era, concertos and symphonies, to popular show pieces, film music and brand new contemporary music.

We regularly perform with other musicians and musical groups and proceeds from our concerts are often donated to local charities.

We are well known as being a fun, friendly orchestra, welcoming members of any age. If you’d like to join, please see our Join us page.
